BAINBRIDGE ISLAND - AN EMERALD JEWEL
Named one of the ten best guided tours by BICYCLING magazine!!
One of best ways too enjoy the Seattle skyline is from the deck of a ferry boat. After bicycling away from our Seattle Cycling Tours shop, our entourage weaves through the streets of the city to the Washington State Ferry - Colman Dock - located between Columbia and Yesler Streets on the waterfront.
Here we wait patiently for our boarding instructions while 1700 commuters and 150 vehicles make their way off the ferry and head off into the city. Then we ride onto the ferry tying up at the bow end of the car deck. Bicycles get on AND off first!
For thirty minutes we sail across Elliott Bay, and from the great viewing decks of the ferry we watch as the city recedes while the mountains of Olympic National Park get closer and closer. When the loudspeakers announce our arrival, we have plenty of time to meet back at our bikes while the ferry docks at Eagle Harbor before we bicycle off into the town of Winslow. Brief exploration of town ensues before continuing on along the lush evergreen lined - bicycle friendly roads of this magnificent residential island. Our approximately 18 mile ride has begun!
All along the way we'll talk about Bainbridge Island's rich history, breathe the fresh air, see magnificent waterside views, and enjoy the open road.
Partway through our exploration we take a break to fuel up on snacks from one of the many delicious cafes and bakerys on the island and view marine vistas before heading out again for another bit of riding before heading back to the ferry dock at Eagle Harbor and the trip into Seattle. During the season we'll try to visit the local Saturday farmer's market.
Once back in the city we work our way through historic Pioneer Square and up First Avenue, passing the Seattle Art Museum and bustling Pike Place Market as we head back to the Seattle Cycling Tours office.
