Traveling With Your Bike

Yes, this is what can happen when traveling with your bike. Or worse. These boxes were brand new when they were carried into the baggage area. That was in Barcelona. Sixteen hours later this is how they looked at Sea-Tac in Seattle. They were delivered to us on a rolling cart all lying on the horizontal. And the fourth bike on the bottom of the stack was one that belonged to a participant in the IronMan in Hawaii. I just hope that his bike survived.

Traveling with your bike is becoming more problematic from year to year. Not only do the bikes show up like this, but the fees charged internationally and domestically are causing bicyclists quite a bit of consternation.

So what are the choices?

- Pay the fees.
- Rent a bike where you travel.
- Buy a travel-friendly bike.
- Purchase more insurance.
